Videk signs another contract with U.S. Treasury - (10/14/2003)
ROCHESTER, NY - Videk, a leading manufacturer of intelligent scanning and reading systems for the printing and mailing markets has been awarded a six-figure contract to upgrade their Print Verification Stand™ (PVS) installed at several Government locations, it was announced today. "The benefits of this enhancement will allow for the full-page scanning of each check to further enhance the verification process without slowing down the print production." says Tom Slechta, President and CEO of Videk.
The U.S. Federal government prints millions of checks each year for those who receive tax refunds, social security and veterans' benefits, civil service annuities and Federal salaries, and vendor payments. The Government requires that each check be verified, and to help fulfill its goals relies upon a check printing solution that ensures the highest level of accuracy. The solution includes IBM Infoprint 4000 Advanced Function Magnetic Ink Character Recognition (MICR) digital printing systems and Videk's PVS. The PVS reads and logs variable data printed on checks at full production speeds of the IBM printer for subsequent evaluation. The PVS takes the process of check and payment-related document printing to a new level of confidence and accuracy. The systems have been in operation for over three years.
The new vision system upgrade allows for further analysis of the variable data on each social security and tax refund check by using full page-level analysis and error recovery techniques at speeds up to 71,000 checks per hour. The enhancements utilize state-of-the-art high line scan digital imaging technology to increase the overall system performance. The upgrades and modifications include the inspection of the full MICR line on the check, added barcode reading, and improved reading capabilities to accommodate variations in the coloration, intensity, and brightness of the check stock background. Videk is the sole proprietor of the PVS systems currently installed and in operation, and is the only company that can perform the required hardware and software upgrades.
"This new technology gives the Government the ultimate in flexibility and reliability for check inspection." said James Reda, VP of Technology at Videk. "Eventually, this can be combined with Videk's patented "Inspect on Demand" technology making it the most advanced document inspection process in the world." With this new upgrade to their check verification system, the Government, as well as recipients, can be confident that each and every check is accurate and has been independently inspected for accuracy.
