InViziCode at the Oce Open House..... - (6/1/2001)
At the Océ Open House, in Poing Germany in May, Videk demonstrated the industry's most advanced invisible imaging technology in a real production environment. The demonstration of InViziCode, the revolutionary new Invisible Ink Printing & Reading, system drew large crowds and was a huge success, thus solidifying the fact that Invisible Ink printing and reading is here to stay, and ready for real-world applications.
Videk's InViziCode™ products provide a revolutionary real-time method to print, read and decode invisible ink for high speed Optical Character Recognition (OCR), linear and 2D barcodes. Hewlett Packard developed the invisible ink and Gunther International's inc.jet division developed the technology for printing the invisible ink.
Videk demonstrated a "read-print-read" production mail process using Videk InViziCode technology. A document was printed on an Océ PageStream 210 DSC Plus continuous form laser printer. With a Videk Print Verification Stand in-line with the Océ printer, a Videk camera inspection system read an existing OCR data string that represents the "Job Number" from each document. The data was then converted to a data matrix code and immediately printed on the same document with invisible ink using an ink jet imager. A Videk camera then verifies that the unseen code had been printed.
Later in the process, the document was inserted into a windowed envelope. The intent is to read the invisible data matrix code through the window in order to verify correct insertion of the piece and to also log the data for proof of mailing. In addition, the data can be used to verify that no duplicates of this piece were created.
There is no doubt that this application is absolutely in demand. The question in the past has been whether it is possible. Videk is repeatedly demonstrating that we can accurately - and 'invisibly' - move data directly from the print stream to the ink jet printer. This solution makes it possible to create more personal and more private mail documents. InViziCode technology will be officially launched as a new product offering during the summer of 2001.
