Videk Proudly Displayed on The Today Show - (2/2/2005)

ROCHESTER, NY - Imagine the surprise of Tom Slechta, President of Rochester based Videk, Inc., when on February 2, while having breakfast, he caught a video clip on the Today Show that showed President Bush standing next to Videk's Print Verification StandTM (PVS).  "There's nothing better than waking up in the morning and seeing the President of the United States standing next to your equipment on the national news." Slechta commented.  The clip showed President Bush visiting a Federal Management Services (FMS) site, the division of the U.S. Treasury that is responsible for printing government issued checks.  The VPS was being used as a backdrop for the President's discussion of Social Security reform.

The Treasury uses Videk's PVS to "look at" every government check that they print, about 350 million each year.  These are the ubiquitous "Statue of Liberty" checks that are printed for IRS refunds, social security and veterans' benefits, civil service annuities, Federal salaries, and vendor payments.  The Treasury relies on the data that the PVS captures during the check production process for an accounting audit trail.  The systems, recently upgraded, are installed at five Treasury-FMS production locations nationwide and have been in operation for over four years now.

"This isn't the first time that the PVS has had similar national exposure.", explains Amy Stark, Videk's Marketing Communications Manager.  "Since the PVS looks good on T.V., with it's warm red glow and flashing video screen, showing the checks at a production rate of about 20 per second, it makes a great background prop.  Whenever there is a story about the federal government disbursing money, it seems that we get some exposure.  The PVS has also logged appearances in a similar capacity with numerous Treasury Secretaries and Federal Reserve officials over the years."  Amy goes on to say, "As an in-house joke, we've thought about collecting the video clips and putting them together, but with our own voice track.  Imagine President Bush extolling virtues of the Videk PVS!".
