Videk's Invisible Ink Printing & Reading to be Demonstrated for First Time on Production Printers at the Océ Open House
Solution is the first in-line demonstration in the industry.

ROCHESTER, NY -  The industry's most advanced invisible imaging technology will be demonstrated at Océ's eighth  annual Open House  May 14th  through 17th  in Poing, Germany, it was announced today. Videk's InViziCode™ products provide a revolutionary real-time method to print, read and decode invisible ink for high speed Optical Character Recognition (OCR), linear and 2D barcodes.  Hewlett Packard developed the invisible ink and Gunther International's inc.jet division developed the technology for printing the invisible ink.

Oce and Videk will demonstrate a "read-print-read" production mail process using Videk InViziCode technology.  A document will be printed on an Océ  PageStream 210 DSC Plus  continuous form laser printer.  With a Videk Print Verification stand in-line with the Océ printer, a Videk camera inspection system will read an existing OCR data string that represents the "Job Number" from each document.  The data will then be converted to a data matrix code and immediately printed on the same document with invisible ink using an ink jet imager.  A Videk camera then immediately verifies that the unseen code had been printed.

Later in the process, the document will be inserted into a windowed envelope.  The intent is to read the invisible data matrix code through the window in order to verify correct insertion of the piece and to also log the data for proof of mailing.  In addition, the data can be used to verify that no duplicates of this piece were created.

"There is no question that this application is absolutely in demand," said Tom Slechta, president, Videk. "The question in the past has been whether it is possible. We are repeatedly demonstrating that we can accurately - and 'invisibly' - move data directly from the print stream to the ink jet printer. This solution makes it possible to create more personal and more private mail documents." Videk is an expert in vision-based electronic imaging and analysis technology.  InViziCode technology will be officially launched as a new product offering on July 1st, 2001.
